Our Parish
Welcome to the SJB Family...
Our
unique, round building is home to a vibrant and diverse Parish Community
of over 1,100 families who come together in our "circle of
faith" to share liturgy, spirituality programs, Christian Service
initiatives and stewardship.
Our
Past
Our
church was named for St. John de Brebeuf, a Jesuit Missionary who
had the heart of a giant and a passionate commitment to bring Christ
to the Native people of Canada. (Please visit Our
Patron Saint for more information about St. John de Brebeuf)
Established
as a mission of St. Ignatius Parish in 1955, the Community of St.
John Brebeuf was served by the Society of Jesus until July 31, 1992.
It
all began in 1957 with the opening of St. John Brebeuf School, where
regular masses were held in the School Auditorium until the opening
of the Church in 1965.

Our
Present
Since
its opening, St. John Brebeuf Church has been a place of comfort,
support and spiritual nurturing for thousands of families and individuals
from this area and beyond. As part of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg,
St. John Brebeuf strives to build a church of communion,
providing a comprehensive range of spiritual education programs
and enrichment opportunities for all generations. Community
is a very important aspect of St. John Brebeuf Parish. Activities
and organizations focus on the growth and development of the individual
and the family. Through Liturgies, Sacraments, RCIA and other
faith formation programs, the entire community is brought together
to learn and grow in faith.
Please
visit our Faith Formation and Sacraments
pages for further information about SJB's programs.
As
the hands and heart of Christ, each of us is called to share our
gifts for the service of the Parish Community. Here at St. John
Brebeuf, hundreds of volunteers answer the call of the Holy Spirit,
offering their time and talents to enable and enrich a wide range
of Parish ministries, educational teams and social events.
Youth Ministry, Bereaved Ministry, Knights of Columbus, and Ministry
to the Sick and Shut-Ins contribute significantly to the life of
our community. As our patron saint, John de Brebeuf and his
companions encouraged many to volunteer in the Missions of New France,
his namesake Parish inspires and challenges people to live out their
Baptismal call by reaching out to those in need in our community,
city and world.
To
learn more about the many ways that you can make a difference in
the lives of others, please see our Ministries
and Christian Service pages.
Our
Future
The
Community of St. John Brebeuf continues to welcome people of all
ages to gather around Christ's table to share in worship, Christian
Service and fellowship.
Our
Parish is blessed by the service of hundreds of volunteers who
make
our growing list of ministries, sacramental and educational teams,
and social activities possible.
Increasing
enrollment in our Parish School and youth related programs
is
just one of many indications that our vibrant circle of faith is
continuing to grow strong for another generation. We
invite you to join us, and be a part of our circle.
Thank
you for your interest in the Community of St. John Brebeuf. For
