Bereavement
Ministry
We
are called to answer God's call to bring healing comfort and spiritual
support to those who mourn a loss through death.
St.
John Brebeuf offers a weekly Bereavement Support Group, Thursday
mornings following the 9:15 am mass, in the St. Marie Room for Adult
parishioners, and non-parishioners of Christian faith on a referral
basis. Gathering
days are subject to change. If you are interested in attending, please
contact the Parish Office for more information at 488-4467.
Eucharistic
Outreach Ministry
We
are called to provide spiritual nourishment and companionship to
the sick and shut-in members of our parish community. Volunteers
are needed on an ongoing basis to take the Eucharist to parishioners,
and provide visitation at private residences and neighborhood senior
care facilities. Service opportunities include:

Table
Located
at 175 Colony St. , Agape Table provides one meal each weekday to
anyone in need, in an atmosphere of safety, acceptance, dignity
and respect.Donations of non-perishable foods, used for emergency
hampers, are always welcome, as are drivers to take food to 515
Stradbrook.

Alpha
House Project Inc.
Alpha
House provides safe housing and support for women and children leaving
domestic violence. Counseling is offered, as well as workshops in
parenting skills, job skills and self-esteem development. Donations
of money, clothing and household goods are gratefully accepted.

Canadian
Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP)
The
CCODP was established in 1967 to find solutions to the causes of
poverty and injustice. It serves as the international development
arm of the Canadian Catholic Church. The funds (individual donations
and government grants) support grassroots groups abroad. SHARE LENT
is one of these projects.

Catholic Women's League: St.
John Brebeuf Council
The Catholic Women's League
of Canada is a national organization rooted to gospel values calling
its members to holiness through service to the people of God.
The St. John Brebeuf council meets at 7:00 pm, the 4th Tuesday
of each month from September through June in the Parish Hall.
All Catholic women 16 years and older are invited to attend. New
members are welcome.
Hospice
and Palliative Care Manitoba
Hospice
& Palliative Care Manitoba provides comfort for individuals
and their families living with a terminal illness or coping with
grief. Volunteers are needed in the areas of companion support,
office and administrative support, fundraising and more.

of Hesed
The
House of Hesed provides a home, along with physical, emotional,
social and spiritual support for persons affected by HIV and their
families, partners and caregivers. Friendly, outgoing volunteers
are needed one day per week, as are donations of food, cleaning
supplies and money.

Immaculate
Conception Drop-In Centre
Located
at 181 Austin Street, the Immaculate Conception Drop-In Centre is a
safe, non-judgmental meeting place where the city's most marginalized
citizens come each Sunday to visit the Clothing Depot for warm socks
and winterwear, and other essential clothing items, and share
fellowship and a hot meal prepared by local cuurches and other
charitable organizations. St. John Brebeuf volunteers make stew and
cupcakes twice a year. The parish provides the meat. Stew is brought to
the Church on a designated Sunday. Drivers are also needed to transport
the food.

of Columbus Council #1107

The
Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men's fraternal benefit society,
committed to the benevolent service of the Church, the family and
the greater community.
The
Winnipeg - St. John Brebeuf Council #1107 serves the St. John Brebeuf
parish/ school community. New members are always welcome.
General Council meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month
from September through June at 7:30 pm in the Downstairs Meeting Room
at St. John Brebeuf Parish.

Winnipeg Inc.
L'Arche
Winnipeg , located at 118 Regent Ave. E. , is part of an international
federation communities where people with developmental disabilities
and those who help them live and work together in a commitment of
mutual friendship and growth. Volunteers are needed as “special
friends”, for house maintenance, driving or other duties.

of conception to a natural death by providing educational material.

Meals
on Wheels Winnipeg, located at 500-283 Portage Ave. , provides nutritious
meals delivered by volunteers to those in the community who are
unable to prepare or otherwise obtain them. Volunteers are needed
as drivers, servers, route captains, and for office duties.

Next
Step Peer Support Program
The
Next Step Peer Support Program offers ex-offenders an opportunity
to gather weekly for support as they attempt reintegration into
the community. Needs can be anything from job opportunities to affordable
housing.

Our
Place/Chez Nous
Our
Place/Chez Nous, located at 676 Main Street , is a daytime drop-in centre
for street people. It is open from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm . Meals are
not served, but coffee and biscuits are always available. Here, street
people can find shelter for the day, as well as activities that promote
creative development, clothing, and an opportunity to care for personal
hygiene needs. Volunteers are welcomed, as are donations of money, clothing
and personal hygiene products. The Centre is currently
open only Tuesdays and Thursdays. Volunteers are needed to assist
the Centre in opening other days. If you can help, please call

Pregnancy
Distress Thrift Shop
The
Pregancy Distress Thrift Shop at 555 Spence St. provides clothing, furniture
and household goods at a low cost to the community. The store is staffed
by low-income individuals. Funds raised support struggling mothers with
counseling and education. Donations of household items, clothing and
toys are welcomed. An outreach project of Pregnancy & Family Support Services Inc.
