"Safety Over Convenience"
The Winnipeg Police Service reminds all SJB Parents of the importance of following safe pick-up and drop-off protocol for all students.  Please watch for a letter from Constable Henry Burzynski, coming home this week, or click here to view the letter.

Please also be reminded that parents are not to use the back lanes adjacent to the school yard for drop-off and pick-up due to safety concerns of our neighbouring residents.

WANTED
Two (or more) parents to assist with monitoring of the St. John Brebeuf School Dropoff and Pickup Zone.

Over the course of the last year, St. John Brebeuf School, in conjunction with the Winnipeg Police Service, has put into place a program to monitor and improve the traffic situation in the area of the drop-off and pick up zones adjacent to the school.  The underlying rationale of the program, as clearly set out in the notice to parents included in the Student Handbook and in handouts sent subsequently to parents, is the safety of the children.

We are now at a point where the program appears to be showing results and the double parking, which has been identified as the single most dangerous practice, has with continuous monitoring, been practically eliminated.  In order to maintain this situation, we are in need of one and preferably two or more parents who can be on hand for two or three days a week in the afternoon to monitor the pickup period which runs from approximately 3:15 to 3:30 p.m.  Anyone interested in assisting with the morning drop-off period would also be welcome. However, maintaining a presence for the afternoon pickup period is the real need at present.

A very straightforward overview of procedures will be provided for those parents volunteering for this important duty.  The current monitor will coordinate the availability of parents and oversee the continued overall operation of the program.

We urge you to seriously consider volunteering for this activity intended to safeguard our (and your) children.

Parents interested in volunteering for this minimal time commitment are asked to contact the school office at 489-2115 ext 241 or email carreiro@sjbcommunity.ca

Thank you for your consideration.

H1N1 Update

Currently, our school is reporting a normal rate of absenteeism.

When a report of unusual absenteeism is received, the school contacts public health for expert advice and direction.  Public health will tell the school if any changes need to be made to reduce the spread of infection, and the school will inform parents of these recommended changes.

It is important to note that absenteeism reports may not be because of the flu.  Absenteeism may be related to other medical or non-medical reasons.
